The new Dado Cubes set from Fat Brain Toys offers a sophisticated spin on stacking construction toys. Dado comes with 10 plastic nesting cubes that feature interlocking slots. You can organize them in millions of combinations to create complex and beautiful structures, and the blocks are touted as beneficial for visual-spatial learning. They are really fun – when we opened up a set for our in-house photo shoot, our creative team was totally enthralled. It takes good coordination to line up the slots, which is necessary for the really great constructions, so it will take young children some practice. But this a toy that children will grow into and come back to again and again as they get older. To that point, my 4-year old thinks they are cool, and I want a set for my desk at work.
