Stokke Tripp Trapp vs Oxo Sprout High Chairs (ratings/reviews/prices)

kyle from magic beans fairfield poses with oxo sprout high chair and stokke tripp trapp high chair

So let me start out by saying that these two chairs are probably my two favorite high chairs that we carry here at consultation small squareMagic Beans. But just because they’re both great doesn’t mean they’ll both be just right for you. So let’s compare and contrast!

First of all, OXO is amazing at pretty much anything they touch. The company produces great quality products at an
excellent price. I personally own a broom, a whisk, a ladle, some spatulas and a corkscrew by them, and they have served me (and my new wife!) extraordinarily well. The OXO Sprout High Chair is another example of a great quality product from OXO that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. With a retail price of only $249.99, right now on sale kyle from magic beans fairfield with oxo sprout high chairfor $199.99, it’s a great bargain for what you get. Let’s take a look over the features the Sprout has to offer:

  • It’s super ADJUSTABLE! With three adjustable seat heights and two adjustable foot rest positions, you can rest assured that your little one will always be able to get comfortable during mealtime in this chair. The tray also has three different horizontal adjustments to accommodate a growing child.
  • The chair comes with a secondary seat cushion that doesn’t have the crotch post cut-out, so once your little one grows out of the tray and is transitioned to table eating, you are ready with the right cushion for the job. Speaking of the cushion OXO is planning to release roughly 30 new color combinations sometime next year, so stay tuned!
  • It’s easy to clean! Under the seat cushions the plastic chair is nice and smooth, so there are no little cracks and crevices for food to get trapped in. Also the cushions themselves wipe clean very easily.

Moving on, let’s talk about the Stokke Tripp Trapp!

Stokke is another really great company whose products encourage the connection between parent and child, and kyle with tripp trapp 1they excel at developing products that grow with your child. The Tripp Trapp is no exception, as it converts to an adult-sized chair that your little one can take away to college with them to use as a desk chair.* With a final weight limit of 250 pounds, the versatility of this chair is a feature that makes it a very attractive option to many customers.

Another big attraction of the Stokke Tripp Trapp is customization: you can play with many color options, with both the chair itself and accessories, including the cushion set and the Baby Set. Parents can get creative and expressive with the color options, keep it more traditional, or go with something really modern looking. It’s a chair that is very adaptable to any decor.

The price all together for the Tripp Trapp is a little steeper than the OXO: if you get the chair, both trays, a baby set, and 2 sets of the fabrics (I always recommend purchasing a spare so you can have one in the wash and one on the chair) you arrive at $544.99. The price tag may seem high, but considering it comes with a seven year warranty and essentially has an endless shelf life, it’s a pretty good bargain.

The Tripp Trapp was initially developed without a tray for the European market, so little ones would sit right at the kyle with tripp trapp 2table with parents – the idea was that sharing mealtimes would be great for family bonding! So the tray was not developed until it was introduced to the American market. It is for this reason that the Tripp Trapp tray is not quite as adjustable as on the Sprout. There are two trays available for the Tripp Trapp: the Playtray that attaches to the chair itself, and the Stokke Tray that attaches to the Baby Set, both of which are dishwasher safe.

Otherwise, the Tripp Trapp is just as adjustable for comfort as the Sprout, if not more so: like the OXO Sprout, it has two adjustable leg rests which will allow your little one to always be able to keep their knees bent at 90 degrees which makes it easy to get and stay comfortable. It has even more tiers of adjustment than the Sprout, but there are a few more steps to adjust it. Don’t worry, though – it’s easy!

I feel like if you are torn between the two of these chairs, just try not to overthink it. They are both really great high chairs, and if you have narrowed down to these then just know that either one will surely be a great chair for your little munchkin. I feel like the main deciding factors are: do you want a high chair that is more than just a high chair and will grow with your child, or are you fine with a high chair that is only just a high chair? After that, it comes down to the general aesthetics.

Either way, they’re both great and customers love them, so go with your gut – you can’t lose!

*Editor note: we have several Tripp Trapps around the office in adult-sized configuration, but I had never tried one until recently. To my surprise and delight, they can fit a pretty wide adult-sized caboose! And they’re SUPER comfortable.
