11 products to watch for in 2011

Boon GloOut with the old, in with the new. Here are 11 noteworthy baby products scheduled to debut in 2011.

  1. Bugaboo Donkey – the long-awaited Bugaboo expandable double stroller should make it’s highly anticipated debut this spring. We’re expecting big demand and short supply.
  2. Mountain Buggy Duet – the narrowest side-by-side double stroller is coming soon from Mountain Buggy. At just 24″ across, it’s not much wider than a big single stroller.
  3. Mountain Buggy Freerider – the newest concept in a wheeled board, the Free Rider will transform into a scooter. Very cool.
  4. Boon Glo (pictured above) – they’ve evolved the rechargeable LED nightlight into something playful and interactive that will appeal to all  kids, from toddler to tween.
  5. Cybex Aton – watch out, if all goes as I expect, this new infant car seat could make a big splash. The base design is pure genius, and the seat itself is sleek and light.
  6. Kidco Go Pod – a collapsible exersaucer-style entertainment center that offers easy, on-the-go containment.
  7. OXO Sprout High Chair – it’s taken longer than expected to hit the market, but the OXO modern high chair will offer a nice balance of features and value.
  8. Nook Pebble Lite – if you love the concept of the Nook Pebble mattress but can’t see paying the premium price, watch out for a more affordable version, coming soon.
  9. Bloom Alma Papa – the clever folding mechanism of the Bloom Alma crib has made it a favorite for parents and grandparents who are short on space. But the compact size of the Alma shortens its life span to 18 months (if you’re lucky). The new Alma Papa is a full-size version that uses the same patented fold. Best of both worlds.
  10. phil&teds Lobster – another long-awaited product that’s finally hitting stores, this sibling to the best-selling Me Too seat is a more robust hook-on chair with an easy-on, easy-off attachment “claw”, a custom carry bag and even a small tray.
  11. 4Moms Origami Stroller – this stroller folds itself with the press of a button. But it’s taken years longer than expected to perfect the design. Rumor has it the Origami is ready to go for 2011, but I’m not holding my breath.

…and one more product that SHOULD come out in 2011, if only in my humble opinion

Tripp Trapp Tray – thank heavens for the Playtray, the aftermarket plastic tray designed to fit the Tripp Trapp chair. But it’s time for Stokke to embrace the idea that Americans really like to use trays, especially for new (messy) eaters, and direct their considerable design expertise towards designing a fully integrated (but easily removable) solution.
