Save on the Best Gear & Furniture at Magic Beans on Tax-Free Weekend, August 10-11

Tax-Free Weekend is on the horizon, with plenty of opportunities to save – after all, sales tax is 6.25% in Massachusetts, and that adds up fast. Using our Quick-Add Registry, I put together a quick list of baby essentials for a hypothetical shopper, and ran some numbers. (And by the way, the Quick-Add Registry is really fun to use!) Here’s a demonstration of what you can buy, and what you can buy with your savings.

The Nursery

My imaginary mom-shopper lives in downtown Boston and has a small-ish apartment, so she went with the DucDuc AJ Crib, which has an attached bookshelf, adding both visual flair and storage space. All DucDuc furniture is made to order at their factory in Connecticut, so order this crib in advance to make sure it’s ready on time. She takes the subway a lot, though, so that’s going to require a back-up lightweight stroller, so she’s also getting an UPPAbaby G-Luxe Stroller, an 11-pound beauty that’s one of the lightest reclining strollers we’ve ever seen.

Here’s how it totals out:

Feeding Gear

You wouldn’t think it would take so many accessories just to feed your baby with something that’s already attached to your body, but breastfeeding is so much easier with the right tools. Of course, there are a lot more items on my hypothetical registry, but let’s just see how the savings add up with what we have here for starters. Let’s hear a drum roll:

Nursery items: $308

Strollers: $75

Feeding items: $61

TOTAL: $444

…and with that, our fictional mom just saved enough in taxes to buy a Clek Foonf Convertible Car Seat ($399), and then some!
